111th PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONSSaturday, 13 June 2009 - Tingewick Hall,
John Radcliffe Hospital, OXFORD
Another great year of celebrations by the Filipino Community of Oxfordshire. A Muse and Flower Parade started at Bury Knowle Park, Headington and made its way to the main venue, the Tingewick Hall. A very moving Mass was held in the morning with Bishop Mark Jabalé OSB as principal celebrant with readings given by the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Cllr Mary Clarkson and wonderful singing from the choir. The Community was delighted to be joined by the new British Ambassador to the Phillipines, Mr Stephen Lillie, as well as our own Philippine Consul-General, Tess De Vega. A vibrant cultural show completed the day, led by Madonna Decena and John Lozada, supported by local acts and performances from other Filipino Communities. The verdict on the day's events: "JUST FAB!". A GALLERY OF PHOTOS is available.
